Still High on You

Poetry

So I tell myself that I am over you,

That what I felt is in the past,

The minute the feelings started I told myself they wouldn’t last.

But here I am and I’m still high on you,

After months of repressing the feelings,

After months of limiting our dealings,

Here I am and I’m still high on you.

I can’t lie to myself,

I just have to face the facts,

I think you’re perfect,

I don’t think there’s anything you lack.

Funny enough, you’re not my usual type,

You’re way different, unusual,

Not the kind of guy I’d choose to be in my life.

Where he is focused, you live life on the edge,

You’re the kind of guy who has a million females wanting to share your bed,

You’re chaos in my world, there’s really no place where you fit in,

But I know if you said the word, in a second, I’d rearrange everything.

Here I am and I’m still high on you,

There’s no doubt about it, everybody knows it’s true,

I can’t hide the blushes or the smiles when I hear your name,

I’m done trying to convince myself.

I couldn’t stay away even if my life depended on it,

Because somehow you became a great part of it.

You and your smile and those laughs that cast a spell on me,

And now it’s like I’m in chains tied to you and I can’t break free.

I want to see you successful so I try my very best,

To motivate you and push you to excel, be a cut above the rest,

I know it’s just not enough though, I see it clearly now,

I wish I had met you earlier, things would be different somehow.

I should have met you when you were new to love,

When you were open for adventure and your heart had not yet been broken,

Now I have true feelings for you but I know I can never speak of them,

As a matter of fact, I’m too late, you have a girlfriend.

And now your view of love is not the same,

You throw it around like you’re merely playing a game,

Word on the street is every girl knows your name

And you proclaim it to the world because you bear no shame.

And I know it’s because you’ve been hurt,

She didn’t value you, she didn’t see your worth,

And that changed you into being cold,

She ruined your view of love, she messed with your soul.

I know that since then, you would not be able to love me,

We’re on different missions, chasing different dreams,

We’ve turned different pages, I see that clearly,

Some say love may find us but that’s not how it seems.

So I tell myself that I am over you,

That what I felt is in the past,

The minute the feelings started I told myself they wouldn’t last

But here I am and I’m still high on you,

After months of repressing the feelings,

After months of limiting our dealings,

Here I am and I’m still high on you.
